Pressed poppies make a beautiful greetings card. They can also be combined with other wildflowers for a more colourful card. Get out and about, explore your local area and see what you can find to work with.
What you’ll need
- Wildflowers
- Paper
- Heavy objects, e.g. books
- Glue
First things first – you’ll need to find some wildflower petals you can use.
Once you’ve collected these, arrange them on your paper to make a pattern you’re happy with.

You’ll then need to carefully place another sheet of paper on top, or fold over the paper you’ve already been using.

Next, find something heavy in your home. It could be some old wood you have lying out in the shed, or an old toy that’s not played with anymore. We have a big stack of cookbooks that aren’t read very frequently, and that works for us. As long as it’s heavy, it’ll do the job. Place your paper under what you find.

Patience is required. You’ll need to leave the paper there for around three days. Try not to look at it during this time and leave it there undisturbed.
When the time has passed carefully remove your paper and peal back the top layer to reveal your pressed poppies.

You may want to use some glue to secure the pressed flowers on the paper.
Your card is now ready to be written and sent to a loved one. Alternatively you can frame it and use it to decorate your home.
